How to replace broken glass

londonbuild2.jpg

This is a job that can easily be tackled by any enthusiastic diy`er and it can save you an enormous amount of money.Firstly ensure that you wear safety goggles and protective gloves so that tiny pieces of glass do not cut your hands or get into your eyes. The tools you will need are putty, a small hammer to secure the pins that hold the glass in place, a pliers to remove the old pins, and a putty knife to smooth and bevel the putty. The following explains in detail how to replace broken glass 1. Remove the old glass carefully and safely. 2. Remove the old putty and take out the old pins that held the glass in place 3.Check that the window is square and if it is not make up a template that will mirror exactly the new window pane.If it is square make sure that you take careful measurements of both the length and the height. 4.Install the new glass gently in place after applying putty all around the perimeter of the frame. 5.Carefully apply gentle pressure to the glass and secure it with pins all around. 6.Now apply a bead of putty all around and bevel it with the putty knife making sure it is nice and smooth. 7.Clean off all excess putty on the inside and do not paint until the putty has cured.
