stitching cracks in brickwork

Masonry repair kits can be purchased from Screwfix or most good Builders Merchants.

These kits usually consist of

1.5-8mm rods for inserting into brick horizontal joints

2.2 bags of cementitious  powder

3.A couple of sachets of liquid resin (looks like milk)

4.A small jointer-like tool to push the mixture into the joints.

5.A paddle to put into your drill, to mix the liquid and powder together.

6.A gun to put the mixture into to inject into the horizontal joints

Method:Rake joints out to a depth of about 50mm and clean and wet thoroughly.

Mix the powder and liquid together until a nice consistency has been reached.

Insert mixture into the gun. Test with a small amount so that you are sure that it will go through the nozzle of the gun without clogging or backing up. Place nozzle of gun into the joint and press trigger so that the mixture goes into the joint. Push deep into the joint with jointer supplied with the kit. Now push in one of the rods until it is bedded into the mix. Next, using the gun again, put more of the mix into the joint until it completely covers the rod. Now the joint can be pointed or jointed as necessary. This can be repeated on three joints per crack. Clear instructions come with the kit. The kit is around £170.

Never Use Brickies Again…Buy This Tool Instead!!

Laying bricks correctly requires a lot of practice and it can take quite some time to be proficient at it.The most difficult part of it in my view is getting the hang of laying the correct size bed and perp joints. This takes quite a bit of practice but with the help of the tool below it really is a breeze and it does not take long to get into the swing of things and be laying bricks like a pro. I personally think that this is a great little tool and at a cost of around thirty quid (which includes a trowel and string line plus holders) anyone can save themselves a fortune on projects around the home and garden. When you consider that a bricklayer costs anywhere in the region of a hundred and fifty quid a day wouldn`t it be a good investment and wouldn`t it be  time well spent learning how to use it? It only takes an hour to get really good at it and even Tommy Walsh is impressed. When I last looked it was 29.95 and that includes video and line pins plus trowel. This is a quality product that will save you a fortune if you are in the least bit handy as you could train a monkey to use it.
